Link: 14 people have been killed by a second day of device explosions in Lebanon

The recent surge in explosions in Lebanon and Syria, initially triggered by rigged pagers and then by devices such as walkie-talkies, has resulted in numerous casualties. The New York Times reported 14 deaths and numerous injuries in the second wave of attacks.

Devices disguised as everyday electronics caused significant damage and fires, including a severe one at a lithium battery store. Lebanese state media highlighted that these devices also damaged vehicles extensively.

One distressing incident involved a device detonating amidst a funeral procession, exacerbating the chaos and panic among the attendees. This forced mourners to disable electronic devices as a safety precaution.

Investigations reveal that the explosive devices bore counterfeit marks of reputable brands like Gold Apollo and Icom. However, these companies have denied producing the lethal items, suggesting deception in the distribution chain.

Israel, suspected of orchestrating the attacks, has not officially commented. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant hinted at a new era in warfare strategy, emphasizing the need for adaptation.

The UN Human Rights Chief condemned these indiscriminate attacks, demanding a thorough investigation and accountability for those responsible. Such actions violate international laws meant to protect civilians and combatants alike.
