Link: Acer is the first to raise laptop prices because of Trump

Acer CEO Jason Chen announced a 10% price increase for laptops in the U.S. due to new tariffs on imported goods from China. This adjustment will happen next month, aligning with President Trump’s 10% tariff imposition.

While other tech giants remain silent on their plans, Acer made this pricing decision just last week. The change is set to occur in a few weeks, affecting only laptops as Acer shifted its desktop production out of China previously.

Chen hinted that Acer might also start moving some laptop production outside China. The U.S. is considered one of the potential new manufacturing locations.

However, the vast majority of global laptop production still occurs in China. Major U.S. companies like Apple, Dell, and HP rely on Chinese contract manufacturers.

Without directly quoting Chen, The Telegraph suggests that some companies might use the tariffs as a pretext to increase prices more than necessary. Rivals may see an opportunity for price gouging.

Other PC makers have not yet responded to inquiries about potential price hikes. Companies like Asus and Razer are reviewing their pricing strategies in light of these tariffs. #
