Link: Arlo cameras can now recognize people and vehicles

Arlo has enhanced its security cameras and video doorbells with more AI capabilities, making them capable of recognizing specific people and vehicles. These devices will also adapt to recognize customized objects and changes around your home.

The new features are available in the latest Arlo Secure 5 package, which includes several AI-driven options backed by machine learning technology. This AI suite is now available for Arlo users in the US, Canada, and Asia-Pacific.

One key feature is advanced facial recognition which alerts you about the specific individuals on your property. Image processing for this feature is handled in the cloud, ensuring that user data is not shared externally or stored centrally.

Another update includes vehicle recognition that identifies and labels familiar vehicles through prior naming. Custom detection, still in beta, allows for unique notifications like an open garage door or lights left on.

All current Arlo cameras and video doorbells support Secure 5 without needing a base station. However, these features require an Arlo Secure Plus or Premium subscription, starting at $17.99 a month.

Ideally, these upgrades should reduce unnecessary notifications, only alerting users to important activity—significant in curbing one of the persistent challenges in home security systems #
