Link: Audio-Technica’s new cartilage conduction headphones offer better battery life

Audio-Technica has introduced a new model of open-ear cartilage conduction headphones, boasting enhanced sound quality and extended battery life. Unlike traditional bone conduction headphones, these utilize the ear cartilage for sound delivery, maintaining an open ear canal for environmental awareness.

The headphones, named ATH-CC500BT2, promise a comfortable fit and improved sound separation, thanks to their unique technology. They are priced at approximately $145 to $150 in Europe with no confirmed US release yet.

Developed from research by Professor Hiroshi Hosoi, the technology transmits sound through cartilage, reducing the pressure usually experienced with bone conduction headphones. This method also supports better stereo sound production.

The ATH-CC500BT2 offers up to 20 hours of music playback and 10 hours of call time per charge. Comparatively, Shokz's bone conduction headphones provide only up to 10 hours of runtime.

Charging is efficient, with a 10-minute USB-C charge providing about two hours of usage. Although they lack active noise cancelling, they include AI noise reduction for clearer calls.

These headphones are also equipped with IPX4 water resistance and Bluetooth multipoint connectivity, and they support voice commands via Siri and Google Assistant. #
