Link: Australian workers gain right to ignore work emails, calls after hours

Australian employees now have the legal right to ignore work emails and calls after hours, thanks to a new "right to disconnect" law aimed at protecting personal time.

This law, effective as of Monday, prevents most employers from punishing workers for not responding to work-related communications outside regular hours.

The law addresses the growing intrusion of work into personal lives, a trend worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Australia joins about two dozen other countries with similar laws, like France, which has enforced such rules since 2017.

Exceptions exist for emergencies or jobs with irregular hours, with disputes resolved by the Fair Work Commission.

However, some employer groups express concerns that the law could reduce flexibility and confuse workers and bosses alike. #
