Link: BYD cars now have an on-vehicle DJI drone launch platform
BYD, in partnership with DJI, introduced Lingyuan, a vehicle-mounted drone launching system, exclusively in China for $2,197. This innovative feature, showcased in a BYD video, allows a drone to launch from a moving vehicle.
The system involves a touchscreen-activated hangar on the car's roof, where a DJI drone is housed and automatically charged. It operates seamlessly, with the ability to launch and land the drone at speeds up to 25 km/h.
The drone can autonomously return to the vehicle from up to two kilometers away and follow at speeds up to 54 km/h. Notably, the Lingyuan package includes the drone, hangar, and accompanying apps for enhanced functionality.
BYD's technology allows for automated video editing and features AI-driven recognition capabilities, although specific app details remain unspecified. Not only has BYD incorporated this tech into the Bao 8 SUV, but its luxury brand, Yangwang, has a similar, albeit bulkier, system.
In comparison, DJI's Dock 3, which also allows drone launching from vehicles, comes at a much steeper price of $21,059 without installation. Lingyuan represents a more accessible approach to integrating drone technology with personal transportation.
This product was fully developed and unveiled by BYD and DJI in Shenzhen, marking another step forward in BYD's integration of drones into their vehicles. The move enhances their offering in the luxury electric vehicle market, spotlighting innovative tech trends in automotive industries. #
