Link: Casio made a furry robot designed to cuddle and calm you down

Casio has launched preorders for Moflin, a robotic pet designed for comfort, priced at approximately $398. Moflin, resembling a mix between a hamster and Star Trek's Tribbles, aims to establish a simulated emotional bond by recognizing voices and handling interactions.

Originally a collaboration with Vanguard Industries, Moflin is now produced and distributed by Casio and comes with additional services. For an annual fee, Club Moflin members receive discounts on repairs, cleanings, and a complete fur replacement.

Despite its limited physical movements, Moflin exhibits lifelike behavior and is meant for handling rather than active play. It offers comfort akin to that of the headless robotic cat, Qoobo, and includes AI features to enhance the user's mental wellness.

Moflin’s design allows it to evolve its personality based on the frequency and type of interactions it receives. It can express happiness or stress which can be monitored via an app, adding a digital dimension to pet care resembling a sophisticated Tamagotchi.

Unlike typical electronic gadgets, Moflin charges on a small bed, giving the appearance that it is sleeping, enhancing its lifelike qualities. A three-and-a-half-hour charge revitalizes Moflin, readying it to serve as an emotional support companion for nearly five hours.

With a choice of brown or gray fur, Casio also offers a paid cleaning service for Moflin. The robotic pet seems designed not just as a novelty, but as a tool for emotional support and company. #
