Link: ChatGPT’s ‘canvas’ interface makes it easier to write and code

OpenAI has introduced a new "Canvas" interface for ChatGPT, enhancing user interaction with text and code adjustments. This feature presents an editing window alongside the regular chat, enabling precise modifications and highlighting for better feedback.

"Canvas allows ChatGPT to grasp the context of user goals more effectively," OpenAI claims. This innovation marks the first major visual interface update since ChatGPT's launch two years ago.

ChatGPT Canvas offers a variety of editing tools, including grammar checks, clarity assessments, and adjustments to text length and complexity.

It also includes coding aids for debugging and translating code, a feature similar to Anthropic's "Artifacts" for their AI, Claude.

The Canvas system aims to streamline the user experience by reducing the need for repeated prompt inputs and includes a feature to revert to previous text versions. OpenAI is also fine-tuning when Canvas activates to optimize its utility, particularly for complex coding tasks.
