Link: Cheap AI voice bots are suddenly everywhere in India

Sarvam AI, dubbed as India's OpenAI, has introduced software enabling businesses to interact with customers via spoken voice instead of just text. This breakthrough technology was unveiled in Bangalore, drawing attention from tech giants like Google DeepMind, Microsoft, and Meta Platforms.

Priced at a rupee per minute, Sarvam AI's voice bots use data from 10 native Indian languages, aiming to reach a billion people. Vinod Khosla, a key investor, highlighted the potential of these bots to transform customer interactions across India.

India's AI startups are increasingly focusing on voice bots to serve the vast non-English speaking population. Startups like Gnani AI and CoRover AI are already deploying these technologies across various industries, from banking to public services.

These voice bots are not just for communication but are also capable of completing tasks like booking train tickets or collecting customer feedback. Sarvam AI’s bots, for example, can handle mixed-language conversations, set up appointments, and process payments.

Indian AI companies are capitalizing on the lack of localized language data in global AI models. Sarvam's co-founder Vivek Raghavan noted that U.S. companies like OpenAI struggle with the diverse Indian languages and accents.

While primarily focused on India, these startups are also targeting international markets. Gnani AI, for instance, has already expanded its voice bot services to the U.S., assisting Spanish-speaking customers in California. #
