Link: Chipotle’s testing an avocado-peeling robot and an automated bowl assembly line

Chipotle has introduced a new robot named Autocado tasked with peeling avocados for guacamole. Located currently at their Huntington Beach, California store, this robot aims to streamline preparation processes.

The Autocado can peel and seed an avocado in just 26 seconds, enhancing efficiency. This automation allows staff to focus on other tasks, improving overall workflow.

Additionally, Chipotle has invested in innovative technology, collaborating with companies Vebu and Hyphen. These partnerships support the development of Autocado and a new Augmented Makeline.

The Augmented Makeline, being tested in Corona del Mar, California, automates the assembly of bowls and salads. Positioned under the standard prep area, it caters to the 65 percent of Chipotle orders that are either bowls or salads.

These technological advancements are funded by a $100 million venture from Chipotle. This investment aims to increase efficiency and customer satisfaction.

While automation in food preparation is expanding, traditional hand-crafted meals remain an option. Even with automated systems, extras like guacamole are still charged as extra. #
