Link: Co-founders Tim Berners-Lee and Rosemary Leith plan to close the World Wide Web Foundation after 15 years of fighting to make the web safer and more accessible (Thomas Claburn/The Register)

The World Wide Web Foundation, co-founded by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, is closing after achieving significant goals in web accessibility and safety.

Sir Tim Berners-Lee and Rosemary Leith note that their work has successfully increased web access from 20% to nearly 70% of the global population.

The founders acknowledge the emergence of numerous organizations that now continue the mission to enhance web affordability and access.

They highlighted shifting challenges, such as the problematic social media model that monopolizes user data, deviating from Sir Tim's original vision for the web.

Consequently, Sir Tim is shifting his focus towards decentralized technologies, specifically the Solid Protocol, to empower individuals with control over their data.

The Solid Protocol introduces "Pods"— personal online data stores providing secure, decentralized data storage and access under user-defined permissions. #
