Link: Global blueprint for regulating military AI proving elusive

Global efforts to regulate the military use of artificial intelligence are lagging despite the rapid integration of AI into national defense systems. The lack of cooperation was evident during the Responsible AI in the Military Domain (REAIM) summit in Seoul.

On the summit's final day, key military nations such as China, Russia, and Israel did not support a proposed blueprint emphasizing human oversight. This blueprint was meant to guide international conduct.

However, 60 countries, including the United States and most of its allies, endorsed the declaration. But their commitment remains uncertain due to the declaration's nonbinding nature.

Experts caution that adherence to the agreement is doubtful. They note the considerable strategic benefits AI offers, particularly amidst rising global tensions.
