Google updated NotebookLM, enhancing its audio summarization by allowing focused conversations on specific topics. This update follows the initial success after its launch, which showcased the feature's ability to convert documents into interactive AI-generated podcasts.

Following its update, NotebookLM saw a staggering 371% traffic increase as reported by SimilarWeb, indicating a surge in user engagement.

With the new update, users can direct the AI to emphasize particular aspects of their content, ensuring relevancy through a new "Customize" control.

Raiza Martin, NotebookLM's product leader, emphasized the importance of user feedback in refining these AI conversations, ensuring that the overviews remain accurate and focused without training the AI on user-specific data.

NotebookLM has also introduced an option for background listening, which facilitates multitasking by allowing users to interact with other features of NotebookLM while listening to summaries.

The platform's growth led Google to launch a NotebookLM Business pilot program, promising early access to new features for participating businesses, signaling a shift towards monetization and expanded organizational use.
