Link: Google Drive gets searchable video transcripts

Google has enhanced Google Drive by introducing automatic, searchable transcripts for videos. This feature became available to all Google Workspace users on February 24, 2025, with complete rollout expected by March 26th.

The transcripts resemble those on YouTube, displaying as timestamped text blocks in a sidebar that highlights as the video plays.

Users can navigate to specific parts of the video by clicking on these text blocks in the transcript.

To access the transcripts, users can click the settings icon beneath the video in Drive and select "Transcript."

This functionality requires that the video already has captions, visible through a CC button on the video player.

If no captions are present, users can generate them by right-clicking the video file, selecting "Manage caption tracks," and then "generate automatic captions."
