Link: Google’s NotebookLM now lets you guide the hosts of your AI podcast

Google's NotebookLM has enhanced its podcast-like Audio Overviews, allowing users to customize conversations by setting specific instructions for AI hosts. This feature enables targeted discussions, tailored for varied audiences depending on the user’s requirements.

The initial launch of Audio Overviews introduced two AI hosts engaging in dynamic discussions based on the user’s research inputs. However, Google emphasizes that these summaries reflect only the provided sources and user instructions, not offering a comprehensive analysis.

To personalize an AI-hosted chat, users start by opening a notebook in NotebookLM, selecting “Notebook guide,” and then choosing the “Deep dive conversation” option. After clicking “Customize,” users can enter desired directions for the conversation.

Recently, Google removed the "experimental" tag from NotebookLM, signaling its readiness for broader user engagement. Concurrently, they introduced a background listening feature, enabling users to hear AI discussions while navigating other app sections.

Last month marked further improvements, as Google integrated capabilities for in-depth exploration of YouTube videos via transcriptions within NotebookLM. This update aims to enrich user interaction and the utility of AI-generated discussions.

NotebookLM continues to evolve, becoming a more versatile tool in Google's ecosystem, facilitating not just note-taking but insightful, AI-powered discussions for diverse user needs. #
