Huawei's new $2,800 tri-foldable smartphone, Mate XT, faced a disappointing launch in China as pre-order confirmations restricted walk-in purchases. Fans expressed frustration, notably at Huawei's flagship stores in Shenzhen and Beijing.

Despite the high anticipation, supply constraints were anticipated by analysts, which may leave several potential customers empty-handed. The Mate XT has been launched alongside Apple's latest release, with both phones attracting significant attention.

Meanwhile, Apple has not yet secured an AI partner in China, delaying the launch of its AI features. Customers, however, seemed unfazed by this, viewing the AI as non-essential at this stage.

Huawei's Mate XT highlights the company's ongoing innovation but faces production challenges, which may affect its availability. Pre-orders for the Mate XT have doubled compared to global foldable smartphone shipments in the last quarter.

Although innovative, the Mate XT might struggle to match the sales of its predecessor, the Mate X5, due to higher pricing and new specs. Amber Liu from Canalys notes challenges in replicating past sales volumes but recognizes the Mate XT's breakthrough in technology.

The introduction and issues surrounding the Mate XT and Apple's new smartphone reflect the intense competition and challenges within the Chinese and global smartphone markets.
