Link: Hyundai recalls more than 145,000 Ioniq and Genesis EVs that can lose power while driving

Hyundai is recalling over 145,000 Ioniq and Genesis electric vehicles due to a major battery charging issue that risks power loss and crashes. The problem stems from an Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) defect that can become electrically faulty.

When the defect occurs, affected vehicles display multiple warnings and shift to a "fail-safe" mode, gradually losing power within 20 to 40 minutes.

Hyundai plans to address the issue by directing vehicle owners to dealerships where the ICCU will be replaced, along with its associated fuse, and new software will be installed to prevent future overvoltage problems.

This software update has been part of all new vehicles produced since November 2nd as a running change. This recall encompasses models from years 2022 to 2025.

Vehicle owners will be informed about the recall through mail starting in January and can claim reimbursements for any related expenses.

This incident is not Hyundai's first large-scale EV recall, as similar issues have affected other manufacturers like Porsche, Lucid, and Ford, highlighting widespread challenges in EV technology. #
