Link: Lenovo Legion Go S official: $499 buys the first authorized third-party SteamOS handheld
Lenovo will launch the first non-Valve handheld gaming PC using SteamOS in May, priced at $499. This positions the Lenovo Legion Go S as a direct competitor to the Steam Deck.
The Legion Go S features a 120Hz screen and an exclusive AMD Ryzen Z2 Go chip, aimed at providing a smooth gaming experience. It also boasts enhancements such as configurable RGB lighting and a larger battery.
Despite this innovation, Lenovo will also offer a Windows version of the Legion Go S, shipping four months before the SteamOS model. The Windows variant is more expensive and includes higher specs.
Valve's collaboration with Lenovo on the SteamOS version is still in progress, with essential features yet to be fully integrated. However, Valve plans to extend SteamOS updates to the Legion Go S, maintaining feature parity with the Steam Deck.
While the Legion Go S aims for higher performance, Valve does not foresee an AMD Z2 based Steam Deck. Lenovo remains cautious, viewing their SteamOS integration as an experiment pending consumer feedback.
Zhu highlighted that the Legion Go S offers both gaming and productivity through its dual OS options, retaining the flexibility demanded by its users. Meanwhile, Lenovo is also developing a larger, OLED-equipped Legion Go 2 model exclusively for Windows.#
