Link: LG and Razer made an ultra-responsive Bluetooth controller for cloud gaming

LG, Razer, and MediaTek are collaborating to create a cutting-edge Bluetooth gaming controller using Ultra-Low Latency (ULL) technology aimed at mirroring the responsiveness of wired controllers. This innovation was showcased at LG’s webOS Summit, emphasizing its potential to enhance gameplay in FPS, fighting, and racing games through reduced input lag.

Although the controller’s design is still under wraps and might change, its demonstrated capability at the event, especially an impressive 1ms input lag, positions it as a potential game-changer for competitive gaming. Traditionally, wired controllers are preferred in the competitive scene due to lower latency, around 10-20 milliseconds.

Google had previously attempted to address the issue of controller latency with its Stadia service by bypassing Bluetooth with a Wi-Fi connection directly to its servers. However, following Stadia’s discontinuation, Google adapted the controllers for broader compatibility with a Bluetooth update.

The new ULL Bluetooth technology will be supported on select upcoming LG smart TVs featuring MediaTek’s MT7921 WiFi chipset. These TVs, due in 2025, will also offer compatibility certification for third-party controllers, enhancing the gaming experience on LG’s webOS platforms.

Razer is set to be the first certified brand under this new standard, although details about the controller’s pricing, release date, or official name are still pending. Additional information might be revealed at CES 2025, scheduled for January 7-10.

With no confirmed availability date for the controller, gamers will have to wait for further announcements to experience this advanced technology firsthand. Meanwhile, anticipation builds as the partnership promises to elevate the standard for wireless gaming performance. #
