Link: Mark Zuckerberg says Meta isn’t worried about DeepSeek
Despite the tech community's alarm over DeepSeek's advancements, Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg remains confident. During the earnings call, he highlighted DeepSeek's innovations, which are now being integrated into Meta's upcoming AI model, Llama.
Zuckerberg addressed the fears that DeepSeek’s technology might reduce the need for powerful computing resources. He argued that Meta's continued investment in CapEx and infrastructure would yield strategic advantages.
The CEO also made a broad statement about the future shift in computing resources towards enhancing AI's reasoning abilities rather than just training them. This shift doesn't reduce the need for significant computing power, according to Zuckerberg.
Zuckerberg praised the current U.S. administration for supporting American tech leadership and for defending national interests globally. This comment coincided with the announcement that Meta is settling a lawsuit with former President Donald Trump for $25 million.
Financially, Meta remains robust with a reported revenue of $48.39 billion for the fourth quarter of 2024—an impressive 22% increase from the previous year. Zuckerberg anticipates Meta's AI model, Llama, to engage over one billion users this year.
Zuckerberg subtly criticized competitors like OpenAI for lacking sustainable business models, in contrast to Meta's substantial investment and strong revenue streams. Meanwhile, Meta's daily active users have grown to 3.35 billion, underscoring its expansive reach.
