Link: Microsoft is the mystery AI company licensing HarperCollins books, says Bloomberg
Bloomberg reports that Microsoft plans to use HarperCollins' content to train an unannounced AI model, a day after 404 Media first broke news of the deal.
HarperCollins has confirmed that the agreement will cover selected nonfiction books and that authors must opt in.
Author Daniel Kibblesmith was offered $2,500 per book for a three-year AI licensing contract, which he humorously said he'd consider for "a billion dollars."
Kibblesmith aims for an offer that allows him to stop working, aligning with the transformative goals of AI technology.
Though specifics are scarce, sources indicate Microsoft doesn't plan to create AI-written books using the HarperCollins content.
Earlier, News Corp, HarperCollins' parent, authorized OpenAI to train its models using content from several major news outlets. #
