Link: Microsoft opens testing for Windows AI search

Microsoft is testing an AI-powered search feature on Windows 11 for Insider testers, allowing searches using natural language. This feature is part of a new dev channel build and supports casual phrasing to search local files.

The AI-enhanced search works in various Windows components like Settings, File Explorer, and the taskbar. It importantly functions offline on Copilot Plus PCs equipped with NPU chips.

Currently, the search capability is limited to indexing local files such as JPEGs, PNGs, PDFs, TXTs, and XLS files. Users have control over indexed locations, which can be adjusted in Settings under Privacy & Security.

Microsoft plans to extend this feature to include cloud data from services like OneDrive in future updates. The initial rollout targets Windows Insiders using Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs, with plans to expand support to other processors.

The update also introduces AI writing aids like 'Click to Do,' enhancing text interaction with context-sensitive options. By selecting 'Rewrite' and then 'Refine,' users can automatically correct grammar in the text.

This development is part of a broader integration of AI across Microsoft's product suite, enhancing user interaction and accessibility. #
