Link: Minecraft is losing VR support next year
Minecraft will officially stop supporting all virtual reality headsets after March 2025, according to an update in the Bedrock changelog. This decision affects several devices, including the Oculus Rift, Windows Mixed Reality headsets, and the Meta Quest via Quest Link.
UploadVR reports that this move follows Mojang's previous announcement of ending PlayStation VR support in March. Players can still enjoy their worlds and access Marketplace purchases on non-VR devices like computer monitors following the Spring update.
Despite the cessation of official VR support, Minecraft enthusiasts can continue playing in VR on PC. This is possible by using the Java version with mods like Vivecraft or standalone VR ports such as QuestCraft.
Minecraft's VR journey began in 2016 with its launch on Samsung’s Gear VR, eventually expanding to include Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR. These expansions added significant versatility to the game's platform compatibility.
The decision to end VR support follows Mojang's earlier discontinuation of Minecraft Earth in 2020. Minecraft Earth was an augmented-reality mobile app that also closed down.
Thus, while Minecraft scales back on some technologies.AI ative players still have options to experience the game in virtual reality, maintaining a segment of its diverse platform support. #
