Link: MoneyGram says hackers "accessed and acquired" some customers' personal and transaction data, including SSNs, during a cyberattack between September 20 and 22 (Zack Whittaker/TechCrunch)

MoneyGram has confirmed a cyberattack last month led to the theft of customer personal and transaction data. The breach occurred on September 20, causing a significant service disruption, including a week-long outage of its website and app.

The company, which serves over 50 million customers in over 200 countries annually, is still investigating the breach.

The extent of affected customers remains unclear, as stated in their recent announcement.

The stolen data includes names, contact information, dates of birth, and national IDs, with some records also containing Social Security numbers and government IDs. Additional documents like utility bills and bank account numbers have also been compromised.

Transaction details like dates and amounts were also taken, alongside sensitive criminal investigation data for some.

MoneyGram has since notified U.K. data protection regulators about the incident as required by law.

MoneyGram is currently assessing the breach's impact and has not disclosed specific details on the total number of victims.

Officials have yet to provide further comments beyond their statement. #
