Link: National Public Data admits it leaked Social Security numbers in a massive data breach

National Public Data (NPD) confirms a data breach leaking personal information. This information was reportedly sold on the dark web for months without any official acknowledgement from NPD.

Recently, NPD published bare minimum details about the breach, leaving many other questions unanswered.

The incident is believed to involve a third-party mischief-maker who was trying to break into the data starting from late December 2023.

Subsequently, the data breach incident potentially leaked personal data such as names, email addresses, social security numbers, and physical addresses.

Around 2.9 billion rows of data are suspected to be leaked, the total number of affected individuals is currently unspecified. Analysis found inconsistencies in how data is linked to individuals.

Though NPD has cooperated with law enforcement and will notify affected individuals, it does not commit to any sort of compensation or provide contact information. It simply suggests that people monitor their credit reports. #
