Link: New VWs will answer some of your questions with ChatGPT

Volkswagen is launching an enhanced in-car AI voice assistant, called IDA, integrating ChatGPT for improved response capabilities starting September 6th. This feature will first appear in the 2025 models of the Jetta and Jetta GLI, as well as the 82kWh battery version of the 2024 ID.4.

Drivers will need a subscription to VW's Plus Speech with AI service to access the ChatGPT features. The service will expand to include most of Volkswagen's 2025 lineup, offering free access on select models for up to three years.

Jetta, Jetta GLI, and Taos owners will have to subscribe individually to use this feature. However, Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models are scheduled to receive ChatGPT integration by 2026.

Volkswagen announced these integration plans back in January at CES. The AI, powered by OpenAI's ChatGPT and managed by Cerence, will handle complex requests.

IDA is designed to process natural language locally for basic commands, like adjusting the temperature when a passenger says they're "chilly." More complex interactions, like seeking restaurant recommendations, will be managed via the cloud.

This development marks a significant step in making in-vehicle experiences more interactive and responsive, relying on sophisticated AI-driven voice assistance. #
