Link: Nvidia’s AI NPCs are no longer chatbots — they’re your new PUBG teammate
Nvidia has introduced ACE characters at CES 2025, promising a new level of AI interaction in games. These characters are designed to act as "autonomous game characters" and will, for example, team up with players in PUBG as AI teammates.
The AI-powered characters can perceive, plan, and react, mimicking human players. They are enhanced by small language models and multi-modal SLMs for realistic decision-making and environmental interaction.
In PUBG, the AI character, dubbed the "PUBG Ally," will communicate using game lingo, strategize, and physically interact within the game. This includes driving and engaging in combat, essentially functioning as a human teammate would.
However, a demonstration video raises questions about the actual effectiveness and real-time functionality of this technology. It hints at the potential for significant advances in gaming interaction, though live results might vary.
Nvidia's ACE characters are also set to enhance other games, such as Naraka: Bladepoint Mobile PC and Wemade Next’s MIR5, where they will perform varied roles from teammates to bosses. The introduction of these AI characters across different platforms and games promises to revolutionize player experience and game dynamics.
Krafton's upcoming inZOI game will feature CPCs known as "Smart Zoi," showcasing the versatile application of NVIDIA’s technology in different gaming genres. #
