Link: Omi is another AI companion wearable — but this one’s trying to read your mind

Nik Shevchenko introduces Omi, an $89 wearable that processes and interacts with your conversations. It attaches to the temple and uses AI to provide summaries and information without explicit prompts.

During a demonstration, Shevchenko asks Omi about The Verge, receiving a positive AI-generated response on his phone. The device leverages brain waves to discern if it's being addressed directly.

Omi currently operates on simple brain-computer-interface technology and recognizes one type of communication. Shevchenko aims to evolve it to understand and record thoughts, a feature he anticipates in two years.

Omi also functions as an intelligent assistant, summarizing conversations and providing updates, like Bitcoin prices. An app store extends its capabilities, integrating it with other digital tools.

For Shevchenko, Omi serves as a personal mentor, offering guidance and feedback using bots modeled after tech moguls. This personal use contrasts with how early adopters use Omi for remembering details and information retrieval.
