Link: OpenAI and Softbank are starting a $500 billion AI data center company
The White House has announced The Stargate Project, a plan involving Masayoshi Son, Sam Altman, Larry Ellison, and President Donald Trump to develop AI data centers. SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle, and MGX will fund the $500 billion initiative aimed at enhancing OpenAI's infrastructure in the U.S.
Construction has started in Texas, with additional sites across the nation being considered. Oracle, NVIDIA, and OpenAI are tasked with the direct development and operation of the computing systems.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has updated their ongoing partnership with OpenAI. The core aspects of their collaboration, including intellectual property sharing and exclusive API access, will remain unchanged until 2030.
There are adjustments to how new capacity is managed, allowing Microsoft right of first refusal for building new capacity in the future. OpenAI has also committed to a significant new agreement, using Microsoft's Azure for supporting all its products and training.
The project announcement confirms rumors circulating since early last year. It signifies the influential role President Trump's election played in catalyzing this ambitious endeavor.
The partnership highlights an expansive collaboration across major tech giants to advance the United States' position in the artificial intelligence sector. #
