The fediverse introduces a TikTok alternative called Loops, which is in its early stages and currently allowing sign-ups. Daniel Supernault, creator of Pixelfed, developed Loops to be part of the federated apps running on ActivityPub.

Loops promises to prioritize user privacy, not selling data or using content for AI training. Users maintain ownership of their content, merely granting Loops permission to use it.

Funding for Loops depends on user contributions via Patreon, Open Collective, and Liberapay, alongside grants. This aligns with many fediverse projects that avoid traditional investor backing.

Loops integrates social features allowing users to interact with content by following, liking, commenting, and sharing. It will be accessible not only to Loops users but also to users from other federated platforms like Mastodon and Pixelfed.

Content moderation on Loops will depend on a user's trust score, which affects video publication times and comment visibility. New signups will be processed gradually, moderated by rate limiting.

Platforms and deployment details include plans for an Android APK, an iOS version via TestFlight, and a future web interface. Community feedback is currently sought for policies and moderation roles. #
