Link: Porsche is holding on to gas cars for a bit longer
Porsche is delaying its transition from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles due to sluggish EV sales. Automotive News Europe reports that the company will introduce more gas-powered models.
The automaker's chief financial officer, Lutz Meschke, emphasized the sustained commitment to combustion engines. He noted a preference for gas engines in the luxury segment, influencing Porsche's upcoming products.
Porsche currently offers two high-end electric models, the Taycan and the newly released Macan. Plans were in place to expand their EV lineup with models like the Cayenne 718 and a new high-performance SUV.
However, Meschke indicated a possible shift towards hybrid or traditional combustion versions of these planned electric vehicles. This change is driven by ongoing strategic assessments.
The company originally aimed for 80% of its sales to be electric by 2030. Changes include the recent launch of a RWD Macan and a redesigned Taycan, amidst falling EV sales in the US and tough competition in China.
Porsche's adjustment in strategy underscores the challenges automakers face in the transition to electric transportation, as market preferences and economic factors come into play. #
