Link: Raspberry Pi and Sony made an AI-powered camera module

Raspberry Pi and Sony have launched a new $70 AI Camera module today, designed to aid Raspberry Pi users in developing easy-to-process visual data solutions. This device features on-board AI processing and is aimed at facilitating edge AI innovations.

The camera supports integration with all Raspberry Pi single-board computers and combines Raspberry Pi’s RP2040 microcontroller with Sony’s IMX500 sensor.

Notably, this integration allows the camera to process AI tasks directly, negating the need for additional processing units like GPUs. Such features make it an optimal tool for handling complex visual data efficiently.

The Raspberry Pi AI Camera offers impressive specs, including a 12.3 megapixel resolution and the ability to record at varying frames per second.

With adjustable focus and a 76-degree field of view, the module maintains a compact size, akin to its predecessor, the Camera Module 3.

"AI-based image processing is becoming an attractive tool for developers around the world," stated Raspberry Pi CEO Eben Upton. The company anticipates innovative applications from its community using this new tool. #
