Link: Sam Altman's Worldcoin rebrands as World, unveils a new Orb powered by Nvidia's Jetson chipset, plans to integrate its ID verification into other software, more (Ina Fried/Axios)

Worldcoin, now rebranded as World (and World Network), has announced a shift in focus towards broader objectives. The rebranding was shared by Sam Altman and Alex Blania during a San Francisco event.

World aims to combat the increasing issue of distinguishing bots from humans in our AI-saturated society.

They're pitching this vision as integral to today's digital identity verification needs.

A significant update is the new version of their Orb iris-scanning technology, now enhanced by Nvidia's latest Jetson chipset. This upgrade promises nearly five times more AI performance and reduced component use.

This improvement paves the way for more extensive deployment, including self-service kiosk integration.

This will allow easier access for individuals to participate in World's identity project.

For those reluctant to use iris scanning, World offers alternative verification via NFC-enabled passports.

This method ensures personal details like age and nationality are verified without compromising privacy.

World is also working towards integrating its secure identity verification system across various software platforms to help combat deepfakes.

Platforms like FaceTime, WhatsApp, and Zoom could soon support this digital ID system. #
