Link: Silicon Valley gets its first drone delivery service

Silicon Valley is introducing its first drone delivery service, initially offering essentials like chocolates and Prime-branded drinks. This service, launched by California's Matternet, is piloting in Mountain View and Sunnyvale following FAA approval.

Utilizing a special M2 drone, the only non-military drone certified for deliveries in the US, this service features a tether drop system for safe package delivery to homes.

The delivery process is fully automated, with drones capable of swapping their batteries and picking up a new package in under 60 seconds. Matternet's CEO Andreas Raptopoulos highlights the service's speed and its potential to reduce city congestion and emissions.

Matternet plans to expand this innovative delivery system by partnering with major logistics companies.

Residents of Mountain View and Sunnyvale are invited to join the pilot program, with deliveries scheduled between 12–6PM on select days.
