Link: Sony and Honda’s Afeela electric car will start at $89,900

The electric vehicle Afeela, developed jointly by Sony and Honda, is now available for preorder. After five years of development, the announcement for pricing and availability was made during Sony Honda Mobility's CES press conference.

The Afeela 1 will be sold in two versions, starting at $89,900 for the Origin model and $102,900 for the Signature model. Both prices include a free three-year subscription to in-car features like advanced driver assist and AI-powered personal assistance.

Preorders for the Afeela began today, initially exclusive to Californian residents with a $200 deposit. However, it remains unclear if the vehicle will be available in other states.

With a range of up to 300 miles and support for the Tesla Supercharger network, the vehicle is set to compete in the luxury EV market. Notably, deliveries for the Signature trim will begin in 2026, followed by the Origin trim in 2027.

Sony Honda Mobility showcased the nearly final prototype, highlighting features such as a wide dashboard with multiple screens, extensive semi-autonomous driving tech, and potential augmented reality integration. This marks Sony’s ambitious entry into the automotive market.

The engagement with the concept vehicle has evolved since its debut in 2020, energized by shifts in EV demand and political changes. Sony Honda Mobility is preparing to hold another press conference tomorrow to discuss the customer experience for Afeela buyers. #
