Link: Sony’s Xyn is a prototype VR headset for making 3D games and movies

Sony is launching the Xyn headset, targeting professionals in film, animation, and game development with its “extended reality” capabilities. The device boasts 4K OLED displays and integrates with major third-party design and production software.

The headset features a user-friendly design allowing wearers to flip it up when not in use, though it lacks the previously demonstrated ring and pointer accessories. Sony has also introduced the Xyn Motion Studio app, compatible with Windows, which enhances motion capture using up to 12 Mocopi sensors.

The app offers robust editing tools, enabling creators to modify and fine-tune motion captures effectively. There’s also a developing “spatial capture solution” designed to convert images into photorealistic 3D models leveraging Sony’s advanced algorithms.

One year after its initial reveal, specific capabilities of the headset remain under wraps, but it is confirmed to facilitate interactions with 3D objects. Moreover, Sony plans to launch Xyn Motion Studio in March 2025, though details on the headset's availability and pricing are still pending. #
