Link: Spotify is making it easier to release audiobooks narrated by AI
Spotify is partnering with ElevenLabs to bring more AI-narrated audiobooks to its platform, expanding the roles of synthetic voices in the audiobook market.
ElevenLabs, a leading AI voice provider, allows authors to narrate books in 29 languages using a variety of synthetic voices, enhancing accessibility and diversity in audiobook production.
Spotify's audiobook distribution arm, Findaway Voices, previously only accepted digital audiobooks from certain partners and required a review before publishing, but this partnership could change that.
While Spotify values human narration, it acknowledges the cost-effectiveness and efficiency of AI in producing audiobooks, especially for lesser-known, backlist titles.
All AI-narrated audiobooks on Spotify will be clearly labeled in their metadata and descriptions, informing users that they are listening to a digitally created voice.
Authors that want extensive use of the ElevenLabs platform will need a premium subscription, with the Pro tier offering up to 500 minutes of narration for a monthly fee. #
