Link: Tesla Cybercab announced: Elon Musk’s robotaxi is finally here

Elon Musk recently revealed a new self-driving electric vehicle without a steering wheel or pedals, named the robotaxi, during Tesla's "We, Robot" event. This initiative signals a shift towards autonomous vehicles, though it requires regulatory approval before production.

The robotaxi features an innovative design with upward-opening doors and a compact two-passenger capacity, employing inductive charging for wireless power replenishment.

Musk asserted that autonomous cars could be significantly safer and more cost-effective than human-driven vehicles. He claimed they could be 10-20 times safer and as low as $0.20 per mile, a stark contrast to the $1 per mile operational cost of city buses.

Plans are in place to initiate fully autonomous driving trials in Texas and California next year, with the aim to start producing the Cybercab by 2026, though this could delay until 2027.

Additionally, Tesla is developing a versatile robot, Optimus, expected to be priced between $20,000 and $30,000, capable of performing varied tasks.

Musk's pivot towards robotics and AI could redefine Tesla's core focus, moving beyond traditional electric vehicle manufacturing towards leading-edge autonomous technology. #
