Link: The loneliness epidemic: over 1 in 5 people worldwide often feel lonely

Gallup's research displays an increasing loneliness epidemic, with over 1 in 5 people globally often feeling lonely. Loneliness leads to heightened negative emotions and an increased likelihood of experiencing physical pain.

Loneliness is a worldwide issue, affecting all ages. Rates fluctuate, ranging from 6% in Vietnam to 45% in Comoros, signifying the widespread nature of the emotion.

In 22 countries, over 30% of adults experience loneliness. Interestingly, those aged 50 and above are more susceptible to loneliness compared to younger demographics, except in the US and China.

Gallup suggests that reported loneliness might not accurately reflect emotional solitude in certain countries. Respondents may be describing physical isolation instead, affecting both high and low reported rates of loneliness.

Despite outliers, the rate of 1 in 5 people feeling lonely emotionally indicates a pressing need for action. Brands, with their societal presence and influence, can aid in reducing involuntary solitude.

Effective initiatives include the 'One More Hour' by Hinge that supports organizations planning inclusive, low-cost events and 'NoPlace', a social app enabling users to connect over shared interests, which recently became popular in the Apple App Store #
