Link: The timeline apps are here, and they’re awesome

The folks at Iconfactory, creators of the popular Twitterrific, recently launched a new app called Tapestry. It's a unique blend of a social app and a news reader where users can add and view various feeds in chronological order without the interference of algorithms.

Tapestry allows users to customize their viewing experience by 'Muffling' or muting unwanted keywords, thereby creating a more personalized timeline. Additional features include syncing across devices and adjustable display settings, enhancing user control over the app.

Iconfactory has infused Tapestry with a vibrant design reminiscent of Twitterrific, although the best features require a subscription. Despite its simplicity, Tapestry represents a broader category of "timeline apps" like Reeder and Feeeed, which aim to streamline online content consumption.

These apps serve as modern successors to traditional RSS readers, providing a consolidated view of diverse internet content, from social media to various news feeds. While they can't yet replace full interaction with individual platforms like the ability to like or comment, they simplify the content discovery process.

Tapestry offers a more efficient way to access updates, like the latest videos from favored YouTube channels, without navigating through multiple apps or websites. Although optimizing these apps to meet everyone's needs remains a challenge, the ability to filter and sort content helps tailor the user experience.

While it might take time for users to adapt, timeline apps like Tapestry could redefine our interaction with online content by curating personalized feeds that users can browse through more efficiently. This focused approach promises a less overwhelming internet experience compared to traditional social media or news outlets. #
