Link: The world needs a pro-human AI agenda

These are turbulent times with rapid changes in technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), shaping our future. Experts debate whether AI will drastically boost prosperity or pose severe risks to human civilization.

Some industry insiders claim that Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), capable of performing any human cognitive task, is imminent. This sparks discussions on potentially unprecedented economic growth or dystopian scenarios where AI surpasses human control.

However, real-world observations do not yet show a groundbreaking shift due to AI. The promised revolutionary productivity gains are still not evident.

Despite predictions of AI replacing many jobs, vital roles like radiologists, journalists, and drivers remain more necessary than ever. Technological promises have not substantially decreased the demand for human professionals.

AI's integration into the workforce and its ability to undertake complex tasks will require much more time. AI technologies need to evolve significantly in judgment and social skills to fully replace human roles.

The expectation should be that AI will replace only a small fraction of human tasks over the next decade. Advanced AI and robotics still face considerable development challenges before they can perform high-stakes physical jobs. #
