Link: University of Tokyo plans to raise tuition fees by 20% in 2025

The University of Tokyo plans a 20% tuition hike from 2025, marking its first increase in two decades. This change will affect new enrollees in undergraduate and graduate programs.

Currently, students pay ¥535,800 ($3,800) annually; the proposed increase will elevate it to ¥642,960.

The adjustment will include both domestic and international students starting their studies in fiscal 2025 for undergraduates and 2029 for graduates.

Aside from raising tuition, the university is also looking to broaden its financial aid options for domestic students.

This initiative ensures continued access to education despite the fee increment.

Doctoral and law program rates, however, will remain unchanged. #
