Link: Volvo’s ES90 sedan will be built with a Nvidia supercomputer
Volvo's new ES90 electric sedan features the Nvidia Drive AGX Orin, making it the most powerful Volvo in terms of computing capacity. This dual-chip setup performs a staggering 508 trillion operations per second, enhancing vehicle functions like safety features and battery management.
The ES90 will be the first Volvo model to incorporate Nvidia’s system-on-a-chip technology which enables incredibly fast processing speeds.
It’s built on Volvo’s SPA2 architecture and utilizes the Superset tech stack, which promises safer, more efficient cars that can be improved overtime through updates. Superset also allows for continuous improvements, a concept first popularized by Tesla's upgradable vehicle software.
Volvo’s vision includes enhancing features like driver assistance and battery range over time using over-the-air software updates. Improvements developed for the ES90 will also be applicable to the EX90 and future models.
Anders Bell, Volvo's chief engineering and technology officer, states, "The ES90 is one of the most technically advanced cars available and will continue to evolve. Its foundation on the Superset tech stack emphasizes our commitment to safety."
Such advancements highlight a significant leap from its previous collaboration with Nvidia in 2018, which featured the Xavier computer with eightfold slower processing capabilities.
