Link: Walmart bought Vizio

Walmart completed its acquisition of Vizio for $2.3 billion, aiming to enhance its advertising capabilities. The purchase includes Vizio's Platform Plus, a profitable advertising and data division.

The acquisition allows Walmart to use data more effectively in its growing advertising sector, already collaborating with platforms like Disney Plus and Hulu.

Moreover, Walmart plans to increase ad placements both in-store on Vizio TVs and potentially directly on consumer units at home.

Privacy concerns have been raised due to Vizio's history of legal issues regarding viewer tracking, notably a $2.2 million FTC fine in 2017.

Nonetheless, the merger could position Vizio competitively against other economical TV brands, such as Roku, which heavily relies on ad revenues.

While Walmart and Vizio will operate independently for now, Vizio CEO William Wang remains at the helm, with future plans for joint growth strategies alongside Walmart's advertising arm, Walmart Connect. #
